Trump supporters show off racist symbols during US coup attempt

In a day that will be one of the darkest in American history, thousands of supporters of Donald Trump waved Confederate flags, hung syrups and paraded white supremacist symbols as they violently violated the American Capitol on Wednesday.

Shrouded in racist and hateful footage, the pro-Trump mob forced elected officials to flee as they confirmed the results of the 2020 presidential election in a horrific uprising that saw one woman fatally shot during the violence.

At least one of the rioters who stormed the building was pictured wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” sweater referring to the Nazi concentration camp-run Germany where more than 1 million Jews died during the Holocaust.

Outside the Capitol, Trump supporters flashed the once harmless “OK” hand signal that was adopted as a white power symbol and is now frequently used by pro-Trump and alt-right figures to troll the media.

Others dressed Pepe for the frog accessories, another previously harmless meme character co-opted by white nationalists as an anti-Semitic symbol.

Trump supporters also wore Confederate battle flags as they descended on the country’s capital and wore shirts describing the day’s actions as a civil war.
