2021 is JBL’s 75th birthday, but instead of kicking back (or maybe just as well) with a vintage wine and drawing a reminder, the American sound brand celebrates the anniversary with a limited edition of its legendary L100 Classic introduce speakers.
The new L100 Classic 75 is based on the 2018-released L100 Classic (which was again updates on the original 1970 L100 model). In our five-star review last spring, we called the retro-designed floor stands a “viable alternative to the very best of their modern competitors”.
Each of the 75 pairs of the new limited edition L100 Classic relies heavily on the iconic 1970s-style design of the gender line, but acoustic and aesthetic adjustments have been made to highlight the occasion and shift the performance of the speakers together.
While the driver cones remain the same, there is now an improved woofer suspension design and a revised network that includes two-wire features, with double sets of gilded tie poles.
The teak wood veneer that adorns all sides of the cabinet is combined with a black lattice of Quadrex foam that is now finished with a gold and black JBL logo. Special edition badges are also found on the front and back, including a commemorative plaque containing the signature of the chief systems engineer, Chris Hagen, and the individual pair number of the production. Even the wooden crate featuring the L100 Classic 75 and matching JS-120 floor stands is adorned with limited edition artwork.
The L100 Classic 75, announced today as one of several new JBL products at the company’s CES 2021 event, is available from May and costs $ 5,500 per pair. Do you feel like the 75th anniversary of JBL? There is also a new SA750 integrated power amplifier.
