The Queen’s Medical Center today reported a group of 39 COVID-19 cases at its headquarters in Punchbowl.
According to the hospital, 27 caregivers and 12 patients tested positive for a single patient who tested positive for the coronavirus two weeks ago.
The hospital said in a written statement that immediately after the initial patient tested positive, he immediately conducted a broad surveillance and took measures to prevent the transmission of the virus.
“Everyone is quarantined and given proper care,” the hospital said. ‘These events are taking place at the same time as an almost doubling of the positive testing rate for COVID in the community.
The hospital said it continued to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Department of Health guidelines “to ensure safe, high-quality care for its patients.”
“The well-being of our patients and caregivers is our top priority,” said Jason Chang, president of Queen’s Medical Center. “We are committed to best practices to ensure we provide the highest levels of safe, compassionate health care to the people of Hawaii.”
The Queen’s Health Systems sent a written news release to the Honolulu Star Advertiser after an investigation was conducted and no further questions were answered.
Queen’s supplies the COVID-19 vaccine to its caregivers and “advises everyone to receive it.” To date, more than 5,700 caregivers at Queen’s Health Systems have received it.
