Apple CEO Tim Cook has become one of the early technology executives to take into account the events unfolding in Washington DC today. After a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol this afternoon, Cook called on “those responsible for this uprising to be held accountable.”
Apple’s CEO, who has had a strained and sometimes friendly relationship with Trump, said it is a sad and shameful chapter in the history of the United States today. While Cook called for those responsible to be held accountable, Cook also said that “we need to complete the transition” to incoming President Biden’s incoming government.
Cook further wrote Twitter:
“Today is a sad and shameful chapter in the history of our country. Those responsible for this uprising must be held accountable, and we must complete the transition to President-elect Biden’s administration. It is especially when they are challenged that our ideals are the most important. ”

The relationship between Cook and Trump over the past four years has been interesting to follow. The CEO of Apple has long said that it is much better to be involved in the conversation, especially if you do not agree, than to be on the sidelines.
In addition to Cook’s comment, Twitter closed President Trump’s account for 12 hours. The company says Trump needs to remove three tweets that contain “repeated and serious violations” of his civic integrity policy. If Trump does not remove the three tweets in question, the account will remain closed.
Furthermore, Twitter says that “future violations of the Twitter rules” by Trump will result in the permanent suspension of his account. The Twitter security account tweeted the following statement.
‘Due to the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, DC, we have demanded that three @realDonaldTrump tweets posted earlier today be removed for repeated and serious violations of our civil integrity policies. This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be closed for 12 hours after deleting these tweets. If the tweets are not removed, the account will remain closed. Future violations of the Twitter rules, including our policy on civil integrity or violent threats, will result in the permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account. ”
Finally, Facebook also acted against President Trump’s account after today’s events. As first reported by Mike Issac, Facebook is blocking Trump from posting for 24 hours. A company spokesman explained that there were two policy violations against the Trump page:
“We have reviewed two policy violations against President Trump’s page, which will result in a 24-hour function block, which means he will lose the ability to post on the platform during that time,” the spokesman told Issac.
