Additional COVID-19 restrictions go into effect as Hamilton County goes red for state statistics • Current publication

Additional COVID-19 restrictions apply to Hamilton County after the Indiana Dept. or Health on January 6 classified it as red below the advisory level to determine the spread of the disease by the community.

The state demands that provinces be categorized as red:

  • Limit social gatherings to 25 people, without exception from the local health department

  • Restrict attendance at sporting events to participants, require staff, parents, guardians, siblings, spouses and minor children of participants or staff

  • Provide for indoor dining, but encourage businesses to pick up or order online

  • Suggest K-12 school officials review and re-evaluate their plans based on the Dept.’s recommendations. of Education and IDOH

  • Stop activities at senior centers

  • Allow hospitals, long-term care and other congregations to set visitor limits.

Provinces designated as red have 200 or more weekly cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a seven-day positive percentage of 15 percent or more.

“Unfortunately, the new name does not come as a big surprise,” Jason LeMaster, interim administrator of the Hamilton County Health Dept., said in a press release. “Our local positivity rate has been fluctuating near the 15 percent threshold for days, and we are only now seeing coverage of cases from over the holiday period.”

The province must comply with the orange level for two consecutive weeks before it can return to the nomination. Provinces classified as orange have a weekly COVID-19 case load of 100 to 199 per 100,000 inhabitants and a seven-day positive percentage of 10 to 14.9 percent.

“That means Hamilton County will remain in RED for at least the next three weeks.” LeMaster declares. “The only way we can stop it is to lower our numbers, so we ask the community to be incredibly vigilant. Wash your hands. Social distance. Avoid indoor gatherings and get tested if you think you have been exposed to the virus. We all have the power to fix this ship. ”
