An investigation was launched by public health authorities in Mexico after a young doctor was paralyzed minutes after taking the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. Her family called for more research to be done.
Karla Cecilia Perez was partially paralyzed in her arms and legs a few hours after receiving the Pfizer / BioNTech jab on December 30 and was immediately placed in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon. According to media reports, she also had difficulty speaking.
She experienced a number of seizures besides skin rash, weakness and breathing problems within half an hour of receiving the vaccine. She has meanwhile been tentatively diagnosed with encephalomyelitis (encephalitis and spinal cord).
Perez is now in a stable condition and is no longer experiencing seizures, but her family has asked for additional tests to investigate possible hidden side effects of the Pfizer / BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine, as well as to further investigate her condition to to see if she has any underlying allergies that caused the extreme reaction.
“We do not maintain that it is caused by the vaccine. However, it is necessary to explain whether it is related to the vaccination with the vaccine. We do not argue that this was the reason. An investigation must be launched to make sure, “ Carlos Palestino, the woman’s brother-in-law, said.

Prior to vaccination, Perez reportedly experienced adverse allergic reactions to the antibiotics trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole, which may cause seizures, skin rashes and anaphylactic shock in some patients.
Earlier in December 2020, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported at least four cases of partial facial paralysis (Bell’s Palsy) in recipients of the Pfizer vaccine.
However, according to the Mexican Ministry of Public Health, there are no cases of encephalitis (swelling of the brain) among all recipients of the Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine in human trials.
Perez is still being observed and undergoing treatment, including a course of steroids and anticonvulsants to reduce the risk of recurring side effects.
According to Perez’s family, they sounded the alarm to settle the matter in the hope that the young doctor would be cured and that other similar side effects would be spared, but stressed that they were not trying to dissuade the public from being vaccinated.
