The Democrats now appear to have the preference in both of their Senate races in Georgia, and are therefore the favorites to take control of the U.S. Senate. The two Republican candidates have a small lead in the number of votes, and still have the chance to retain the benefits, but most of the remaining votes are in Democratic areas.
The largest block of the remaining ballots is the vote in DeKalb County, a strong Democratic area that includes part of Atlanta. In total, the two Democratic candidates are elected to win the remaining vote by about nine percentage points, according to Upshot estimates.
Democrats have benefited from the strong turnout among black voters, who are on track to represent a much larger share of voters than they did in the general election, based on turnout based on data and early voting .
With 5 percent of the vote left to count, the projected lead on Rev. Raphael Warnock on Senator Kelly Loeffler greater than Jon Ossoff’s prediction on David Perdue. It’s hard to say when one of the two races will be offered. The Ossoff-Perdue call may have to wait until late absent and provisional ballots are counted.
