Sandra Scully, the husband of iconic Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, has died at the age of 76 after battling Lou Gehrig’s illness.

Sandra has died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after years of battling ALS.

‘The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers; however, they are currently asking for their privacy, ‘said a family representative. Any donations must be sent to the Department of Neuromuscular Disease at UCLA / ALS in Sandra’s name.

The resident of Cascade, Virginia, is survived by the Hall of Fame baseball commentator, 93, with whom she was married 48 years after they were married in November 1973.

The father, according to the AP, had one child together, Catherine, and they were parents of five children from previous marriages. They have 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Vin told the AP last summer about his wife’s health struggles: “She is really inspiring, her faith is extremely important and I think that is an important reason why she is no longer there.”

Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement: “We are saddened by the passing of Sandi Scully, Vin’s loving wife and a dear member of the Dodger family.
