Like the coolest things, this PS2-inspired custom PS5 for this world will not be long if it goes on sale later this week.
SUP3R5 releases 304 ‘retro-inspired’ PS5s on Friday, January 8 at exactly 12:00 PST / 15:00 EST / 20:00 GMT. The consoles are shipped internationally, but you will pay more for shipping if you live outside the US. Of course, if you already want to settle for a custom PS5, you probably are not worried about the delivery costs.
You can get the PS2-themed PS5 with disk drive and DualSense controller for $ 649 (compared to $ 499 retail), and it contains colored logo inserts, or if you just want the controller, you can get the custom DualSense only for $ 99 ($ 70 retail). ). The consoles should be shipped in late spring of 2021, but SUP3R5 says the timing ‘depends on availability’.
A few important things to note: Since the builders have to disassemble the DualSense, your manufacturer’s warranty will be invalid during the customization process. The PS5 itself will not be disassembled, so you keep the console warranty. SUP3R5 does not offer its own warranty, but assures customers that it will do its best to sort out ‘functional or cosmetic issues regarding the retro-conversion’.
If you’m worried that the 300 expensive PS2-themed PS2s will be immediately devoured by scalpers, SUP3R5 says it will take action to circumvent the issue. In addition to ‘security measures’, console orders will be limited to one per household, while controllers will be limited to two units per household.
