A handful of states have started issuing a weekly boost of $ 300 in unemployment benefits, or indicated that workers will receive the progress from this week. Others expect help to begin later this month.
Workers in Arizona, California, New York and Rhode Island will receive the first batch of improved payments this week, according to state labor agencies. California and New York are the countries no. 1 and 2 in proportion to the number of workers receiving unemployment benefits.
Officials from Connecticut and the state of Washington want to start issuing the supplement in mid-January.
Arizona, California, New York, Rhode Island
According to the state Department of Employment, workers in California already paid the $ 300 weekly supplement on Sunday.
However, the first installment is only available to the 1.3 million Californians who regularly receive government benefits or assistance through the Federal-State Extended Duration Program, which begins during periods of high unemployment, the agency said.
The benefits will be delayed for others – nearly 3 million people – until ‘revised programming’ applies to the expanded federal programs, the agency said.
The federal programs include Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Compensation for Emergency Unemployment.
All workers in New York and Rhode Island, including those claiming PUA and PEUC benefits, will begin receiving the $ 300 boost along with this week’s payments, according to government officials.
Recipients of Rhode Island will receive the money as early as Monday, according to Margaux Fontaine, a spokeswoman for the Department of Labor and Training.
According to Tasya Peterson, a spokeswoman for the Department of Economic Security, Arizona residents were able to file a weekly claim for the additional $ 300. The payments start this week along with the regular benefits of workers, she said.
Connecticut, Washington
According to Connecticut officials, the $ 300 increase will begin in mid-January, according to a statement issued Tuesday by governments Ned Lamont and Kurt Westby, the state’s labor commissioner.
According to the state on the state’s unemployment website, the state of Washington expects to issue two weeks’ payments on January 15. It usually takes a few days for banks to process the payments after they are issued, the agency said.
According to Angela Delli-Santi, spokeswoman, the New Jersey Department of Labor has reprogrammed its systems to administer the $ 300 benefit and will begin distributing it soon.
The $ 300 weekly supplement follows two others imposed during the coronavirus pandemic: a $ 600 per week allowance offered by the CARES law through July, and a subsequent $ 300 weekly payment for lost wages offered up to six weeks until early September.
While some states were able to disburse the aid quickly, it took many weeks – even months – to do so.
