HANCOCK COUNTY – An accident just west of Greenfield killed one person while sending two other people to the hospital Friday night with non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased driver was identified as Lisa Pinner, 49, of Greenfield, Sheriff’s Department officials said.
The accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m., Friday, Jan. 1, at County Road 200 North and Sugar Creek Trail. This is where sheriff’s officials were called in to investigate an accident involving two vehicles, about two miles west of Greenfield.
The accident involved a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Pinner and a 2012 Volkswagen Passat owned by a Shirley couple. Delegates arrived on the scene and asked that the fatal Hancock County (FACTeam) fatal crash team respond due to the seriousness of the accident.
The Nissan was driving east on County Road 200 North. The Volkswagen drove west on County Road 200 North. The vehicles approached. Evidence at the scene indicates that the Nissan’s passenger wheels left the lane, resulting in the Nissan having a hit edge. The collision with the handrail forced the Nissan into the path of the Volkswagen, which led to a trump card accident. The reason why the Nissan left the road has not been determined.
Pinner, the only occupant of the Nissan, died at the crash scene, officials said.
The driver of the Volkswagen has been identified as Ruthie Gregory (64), Shirley. The passenger was identified as her husband, Donald Gregory, 73. Both were transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They both cooperated with the investigation, officials said.
At present it is unknown whether drugs and alcohol are a factor and the investigation is continuing.
County Road 200 North was closed for about 3 hours while officers from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated.
