HSCO identifies Sgt. Watson dies as deputy in service in motorcycle accident in Pearland

Officials said a sergeant from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office was not on duty. The incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m., near Shadow Creek Parkway and Kinsley Drive.

HCSO het Sgt. Bruce Watson, a twenty-year veteran who had just done a job leading a funeral procession and on his way home. He later died of his injuries at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The sergeant was riding his motorcycle when he was involved in an accident with a sports utility vehicle. The driver stopped after the accident and according to the Pearland police station showed no signs of drugs or drunkenness.

Investigators said it appeared to be an accident while still investigating how the accident happened.

At the moment, investigators are not sure who was to blame.

“Our entire sheriff’s family is saddened by the sudden loss of our longtime brother,” said sheriff Ed Gonzalez. ‘Sgt. Watson has served his community with honor and distinction, and we ask that all will elevate his family in prayer during this difficult time. ”

Watson, 51, was hired by the Patrol Support Services Bureau and worked the night shift at the Emergency Dispatch Center. He joined the sheriff in March 2000 and previously served as a detention sergeant at Harris County Jail, a ranger training officer and an instructor at the training academy. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Watson is survived by his wife, a Houston police officer, and his three grown children, two daughters and a son. The funeral arrangements for Watson are pending.

Pearland police are working on the scene.
