Two foldable iPhone prototypes pass internal tests for durability

Samsung and other smartphone makers have already engraved their name when it comes to folding smartphones. Samsung’s upgraded Galaxy Z Fold 2 is currently one of the best in the market and has very limited competition at the moment. Apple, on the other hand, lags behind in the segment. However, it appears that Apple is investigating its way of launching its own foldable iPhone. According to the latest, two foldable iPhone prototypes have passed internal durability tests.

Two foldable iPhone prototypes have passed the internal durability test, both have different mechanisms

Apple has reportedly completed its own folding iPhones with a hinge mechanism. The two foldable iPhone prototypes have passed durability tests at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, China. The news was shared by a Taiwanese website Economic daily news. The first foldable iPhone tested is a dual screen model. The model features two separate screens connected by a hinge in the middle. Earlier in June 2020, Jon Prosser shared similar news, pointing out that the exhibitions ‘look fairly continuous and seamless’.

We also saw a similar patent from Apple showing a device with two separate screens attached to a hinge. From now on, the tested prototype sounds pretty similar to it. The panels can be brought together to create a single foldable device. Although not the foldable iPhone we had in mind with a flexible panel, the prototype is called a foldable iPhone.

The second foldable iPhone prototype has a clamshell design, much like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Lenovo’s Moto RAZR. Unlike the previous prototype, the prototype of the clamshell iPhone will feature a flexible OLED panel from Samsung. Earlier reports said that Apple had ordered a large number of foldable screens from Samsung earlier in 2020.

Foldable iPhone prototype

At this stage, there is no word on which mechanism the hinges will use, or whether the two foldable iPhone prototypes have the same mechanism. The prototypes being tested are not real smartphones with insides, but more shells with little or no insides. The prototypes are only designed to test the durability of the hinge system. Apple has yet to evaluate with whom it continues. Note that Apple will only go into one and develop it. One of the latest videos from Jon Prosser also said that the two prototypes have passed sustainability tests.

It would not be wrong to expect a folding iPhone in the future, given the number of patents Apple has filed for the technology. Note, however, that no release date is mentioned. However, UDN has predicted that the foldable iPhone will only arrive in 2022 or 2023. We will share more information on the matter, so hold on. Want to see a foldable iPhone too?
