Miami Hurricanes QB D’Eriq King to Operate for Torn ACL

Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King will undergo surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but the school said he is expected to be available for the start of the fall camp in 2021.

In a statement Thursday, Miami said a more definitive timetable for King’s return to procedure would be determined.

King’s right knee apparently bent just before he was tackled during the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma State on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida. He stayed on the ground and held his knee before descending with the help of coaches.

“We are obviously disappointed with D’Eriq, but we know he is in big hands with our medical staff,” Miami coach Manny Diaz said in a statement. “D’Eriq is the leader of this football team and we know he will approach his rehabilitation with the same determination that he has approached every facet of his game since his arrival on our campus. We can not wait to see him again. the field leads our team in August. ‘

This is the same knee in which King suffered a torn meniscus in 2018 while in Houston.

Earlier Thursday, King tweeted: “Thanks for all the texts and calls, I’ll be fine!”

King transferred to Miami last January and had a solid season. He threw for 2,686 meters and 23 times with five interceptions, while running 538 meters and four times. He announced last week that he will return to Miami for his sixth season.
