Oneida County reports 317 positive COVID tests in one day

Oneida County on Wednesday reported its highest number of positive test results in a single day, with hospitalizations also at a new record high.

317 new positive cases were reported, and a total of 181 people were hospitalized, 167 of whom were admitted between Mohawk Valley Health System and Rome Memorial Hospital. The other 14 are in hospitals outside the province.

The Mohawk Valley region has had the highest positivity rate in the state over the past few days, with a rate of 9.36% on Wednesday.

Anthony Picente, CEO of Oneida County, reminds people to avoid gatherings this weekend to stop the spread.

‘It’s about numbers that underscore the need for everyone to remain diligent in promoting the health and safety guidelines we emphasize every day. It should also serve as a reminder of how important it is to be smart this New Year’s Eve and day and to avoid meeting with those outside your household to prevent the spread of this deadly virus, ‘

Nearly 12,000 people have tested positive in Oneida County since the onset of the pandemic, and nearly 5,000 have recovered. There are currently 5,231 active cases.

There are more than 7,500 people in quarantine or seclusion.

A total of 221 COVID-related deaths were reported.
