2 deputies injured during absence in Pueblo West, suspect in custody

PUEBLO WEST, Colo (KRDO) – The sheriff of Pueblo province says two of his deputies are recovering from an illness Friday afternoon in Pueblo West. The suspect is now in custody.

Officials say delegates will only try to contact the suspect in the 1000-block Tenderfoot Lane on Friday morning. The suspect, formerly known to law enforcement, threatened threats against the Tennessee State Patrol and the Tennessee capital building.

The sheriff says authorities in Tennessee have asked Pueblo delegates to investigate the suspect. After no response during the first attempt, a sergeant and a deputy went out a second time around 15:20 to contact the individual.

When they got there, delegates said they were immediately under fire and had sustained injuries. One of the deputies was shot in the head and the other in the left shoulder. Both deputies are expected to fully recover.

The sheriff said the deputies arrested the 30-year-old deputy Berumen and the 40-year-old ao. Rude.

The SWAT unit was called because officials were not sure if there were more people in the house. Deputies fired one round of a non-lethal weapon and were able to neutralize the suspect and arrest him without injury.

A PCSO spokesman said it was never known that the suspect had acted violently against deputies. According to the sheriff, the suspect has a history of mental illness and alcohol may have contributed to this violent encounter.

Deputies say the suspect, Eddie Lovins, is a veteran and apparently informed about explosives. The Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad secures the parameter and gets a warrant to search the house. Deputies will first use a robot to inspect the inside of the house for explosives.

Residents in the area were told to hide in their place while the bomb squad investigated the allegations of the suspect that his house was ‘wired’.
