17-year-old killed in Accident Hwy 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah – A teenage driver was killed in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir Friday afternoon.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old boy was driving a Honda Civic north near mile 24 at about 1:30 p.m., about one mile south of Charleston, when his vehicle veered off the right side of the highway. He overcorrected, went into oncoming traffic and swept a Subaru Crossover to the side.

The Civic turns around and is hit by a southern Toyota Sienna minibus on the driver’s side.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the Subaru were not injured and those in the minibus were taken to hospitals in the area to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for about three hours in both directions.

UHP said it was unknown why the driver initially drove off the road.

His name was not released.
